Union Made Books
Without unions and the solidarity of workers there would be no collective power in the fight for better conditions. At Between the Lines we get it, and we’ve been a publishing ally to the labour movement since 1977. Our first book, The Big Nickel, was a searing critique of the mining company Inco and was launched before a crowd of 200 unionized workers in Sudbury. Since then we’ve continued to publish critical works by and for workers in the labour movement, many of which are featured in this reading list. For over 45 years we’ve run our workplace democratically with no boss. And as a cooperatively run press, we’re dedicated to supporting unionized printers in Canada.
While the publishing industry is dominated by corporate conglomerates that prioritize profit over content, as an independent press rooted in the Canadian labour movement, we’re a clear choice for your future project. Are you looking to tell your story? Do you need to create and publish workbooks for your members? We’re here to help, to educate, and to support the labour movement and meet your needs.
