Toronto Book Launch: Women United by Peggy Nash and Julie White

Join us at the launch of Women United: Stories of Women’s Struggles for Equality in the Canadian Auto Workers Union, by Peggy Nash and Julie White.
To celebrate this important writing on the struggles and histories of women in unions, the launch will include:
- An opening by Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Amy Peng
- A few words from National President of Unifor, Lana Payne
- A short reading by the authors, Peggy Nash and Julie White
- A moderated conversation between the authors, Tricia Wilson, and Laura Walton

About the Authors
Peggy Nash is the Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. She has served as a senior negotiator in the Canadian Auto Workers; an NDP Member of Parliament, and is a named member of the Order of Canada. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.
Julie White is the former long-time Director of the CAW-Unifor Women’s Department. She held many leadership positions in her local union including becoming the first woman president. She lives in London, Ontario.
About the Speakers
Amy Peng is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University. A dedicated educator and award-winning teacher, Dr. Peng has been a member of the TMU community for over 20 years. A tenured associate professor in the Department of Economics since 2010, Dr. Peng is a recipient of the Dean’s Teaching Award (2016) and the TMU President’s Award for Teaching Excellence (2020).
As the first woman to be elected Unifor National President, it is no exaggeration to say that Lana Payne is changing the world. Elected President in 2022, Lana was also Unifor’s first woman National Secretary-Treasurer, and is a proud feminist and activist.
Laura Walton is the President of the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), Canada’s largest provincial labour federation. Laura previously served as the President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees’ Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU), which represents over 55,000 education workers across the province.
Tricia Wilson is a passionate and experienced advocate for human rights, with a long-standing commitment to advancing equity for Black, Indigenous, and workers of colour and finding ways to mobilize all workers in support of diversity and inclusion. She is Director, Equity and Racial Justice, at Unifor. Her journey began at the grassroots level, serving on equity committees in her local union, and has evolved through a series of progressive leadership roles.
