Ann Hansen Book Launch at UOttawa

Join us as the University of Ottawa Ontario Public Interest Research Group and the Criminology Graduate Students Association hosts a free public event featuring Ann Hansen on November 20, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Learning Crossroads Building (CRX) in Room C307.

In January 1983, Ann Hansen was arrested along with four fellow members of urban guerrilla organization Direct Action, which had orchestrated a bombing campaign the previous year. (The group is better known these days as the Squamish Five, following their arrest on the Sea-to-Sky Highway by police disguised as a road crew.)

Hansen served seven years of a life sentence in federal prisons, saying her experiences strengthened her resolve to fight the system that jails women for minor offences often related to poverty, abuse and mental health issues.

Join us for this free public discussion about Ann’s life and Canada’s prison-industrial complex.
