We’re Going on Strike!

The offices of Inanna Publications, Between the Lines, and Fernwood Publishing will be closed on Thursday, March 8 in solidarity with the 2018 International Women’s Strike.

On March 8—International Women’s Day—women in more than 56 countries will walk out of their workplaces and classrooms and will withdraw their domestic and community labour. This withdrawal of both paid and unpaid labour brings attention to the oppression and exploitation that women experience in all aspects of life, from sexualized and racialized violence to economic exploitation, reproductive injustice and the unpaid care work that is the backbone of capitalist accumulation.

As radical publishers who take seriously our mandate to challenge the capitalist, patriarchal, racist and imperialist norms that animate our social and political landscape, we stand in solidarity with women around the world in the struggle for autonomy, freedom, dignity and our very lives.

As publishers based in Canada, we also struggle against a settler colonial system that further exploits and dispossesses Indigenous women. We stand together in demanding justice for Tina Fontaine, Deanna Desjarlais, and the many hundreds more Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in this country.

We call on other publishers, unions, students, and workers to join us.

Also to mark the occasion, many of our best feminist titles are 40% off right until March 15! Browse our discounted titles here!
