Job Posting: Sales, Marketing and Distribution Manager

Between the Lines is an independent publisher of award-winning literary non-fiction on a wide range of subjects including politics, current issues, and history. Recent and upcoming books include Unsettling Canada: A National Wake-up Call by Arthur Manuel and Grand Chief Ronald M. Derrickson, Drawn to Change: Graphic Histories of Working-Class Struggle by the Graphic History Collective with Paul Buhle, Outside In: A Political Memoir by Libby Davies, and Feminist City: A Field Guide by Leslie Kern.

Between the Lines is seeking a full-time Sales, Marketing and Distribution Manager to oversee the sale and distribution of all BTL titles, to develop and manage all book metadata, to track, analyze, and report on our sales throughout the year, to promote the press, our extensive backlist, and forthcoming releases, to work with the Publicity and Promotions Manager on marketing plans, and contribute to the general work of the press. Experience in financial oversight and bookkeeping is an asset, as well as experience with ONIX and other metadata systems.

You will:

-design and execute comprehensive marketing and sales plans for all new BTL titles and manage general marketing for BTL;

-formulate sales strategies, set sales targets, track and analyze sales; produce regular sales reports;

-prepare and distribute bibliodata; monitor supply chains to ensure accurate and updated information; manage website: loading new title records, catalogue copy, final covers, and other details as needed;

-liaise with our distributors and sales reps (Canada/US/UK); work with other BTL staff to present books to sales force at sales conferences

-manage stock and inventory levels with all distributors

-oversee and coordinate office sales, including author orders, website orders, bulk orders, and special sales;

-collaborate with Production Manager on reprints and ebook releases;

-collaborate with Publicity and Promotions Manager on jacket cover copy, advertising copy etc.; work with BTL staff to create promotional and marketing materials including catalogues;

-collaborate with the Publicity and Marketing Manager on regular marketing activities and initiatives, including targeted promotions, mailings, and advertising, building external partnerships, managing marketing budgets, assisting with grant-writing and project plans, and other tasks;

-participate in weekly staff meetings and advisory working group meetings and editorial committee meetings approximately six times per year;

-with other staff, plan for and participate in book launches, sales conferences, academic conferences, trade shows, professional development sessions, and publishing industry events;

-with other BTL staff, participate in titles meetings to make decisions about readiness and timing of titles for upcoming season, finalize titles/subtitles, determine book specifications, target market, cover concept, and other undertakings specified by the BTL collective;

-contribute to grant applications and reporting; share responsibility for managing interns; contribute to jointly administering the office space; and other duties as outlined by the staff collective.

You will need:

-ingenuity and enthusiasm for selling books that challenge mainstream culture and politics and promote social justice;

-excellent organization and planning skills, attention to detail, and an ability to prioritize competing tasks to meet demanding deadlines;

-excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

-strong critical thinking and analytical skills;

-excellent spelling and grammar in everyday correspondence;

-an ability to work collaboratively in a collective work environment;

-a post-secondary degree or relevant work experience;- proficiency with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and social media platforms;

-knowledge of ONIX, basic HTML
