Ernie Regehr in Toronto: Disarming Conflict: Why Peace Cannot Be Won on the Battlefield

  • March 15th, 2016, 6:30pm–8:30pm
  • Toronto Reference Library, Hinton Learning Theatre, , 789 Yonge Street, ON, Canada (map)

Join Ernie Regehr, famed peace activist and co-founder of Project Ploughshares, for a discussion on his new book, Disarming Conflict. He argues that force cannot simply override or transcend the social, political, and economic realities of conflict.

Recent wars have been a spectacular failure. The overwhelming majority end in military stalemate and are settled at the negotiating table. Grievances that led to the war remain unresolved.

“Disarming Conflict” sets out approaches, initiatives, and policies that steer away from the futility of fighting and promote non-military efforts towards “winning the peace.”

Books will be available for purchase at the end of the evening.
